Topic 1: Introduce his current research undertaking under a Monash-ERG collaboration,
Improving educational outcomes of female and disadvantaged primary school students (Project with ERG)

The project investigates how can primary school educational outcomes, particularly for females and disadvantaged students, be cost-effectively improved in developing countries It conducts randomised experiments to evaluate effectiveness of greater parental involvement and supplementary teaching in Bangladesh.

Topic 2: An off-shoot from his surveys under the Monash-ERG contract
Identifying Gender Bias in Parental ‘Attitude’: An Experimental Approach

Using experimental techniques, we identify parental attitudes towards different-gendered children in rural Bangladesh. Parents, either jointly or individually, were given endowments to allocate, freely or restricted, for the benefit of anonymous girls or boys at a nearby school. Our results have important policy implication for addressing gender discrimination in developing countries.

Topic 3: (if time permits, will share methods and findings from an earlier work)
Risk-sharing networks: Experimental and survey evidence from rural Bangladesh

This paper combines an experimental approach with survey data, to study the role of social network in risk sharing in rural villages in Bangladesh. We examine the effects of pre-existing social networks and enforcement mechanisms on risk-sharing group formation and link subjects’ behavior in the game to their households’ real risk-sharing practices.
